Equipment You Need For Mixed Martial Arts Training

Practice makes perfect and the only way you can do that is to train constantly. Although the weapon in mixed martial arts is your body, the only way to practice your technique properly is by using the proper training products that are available in the market.

During practice and in the ring, you need to use a primetime level glove that is sanctioned for use in amateur events. This is available in both open and closed palm designs which offers the right amount of protection to your arms and at the same time does not restrict you ability to grab your opponent.

The heavy bag is another thing you need for training. It is heavy and weights about 100 pounds and is a full 6 feet in height. This will allow you to do a full range of strikes which is a very good cardio workout.

To practice your punches and agility, you will need a curved focus mitt. This is worn by your trainer and you get to punch it while at times, you have to dodge when your trainer decides to hit you.

Mixed martial arts fighters wear shorts or pants during practice and in the ring. You just have to make sure that this is approved for use before you use it.

You could lose more than a tooth when you are punched in the face. You could get a concussion or even a broken jaw which is why you also need to put on a mouth guard at all times. Studies have shown that this will also make you less vulnerable of getting a knockout but despite that, this still happens when you don’t have any energy left in the ring.

Although there are rules in mixed martial arts competitions that prohibit the opponent or you from hitting the groin or any other vital area, this still happens. Fortunately, you can protect that from happening by wearing pads.

Last but not the least is the helmet. If the mouth guard protects your jaws and teeth, the helmet will protect your head and face. You have to remember that some boxers have died because of a significant blow to the head and this can also happen during a mixed martial arts competition. The ideal helmet should have different openings for better cooling and ventilation when you are in the heat of combat. This should also protect your ears, eyes and forehead in the event of a frontal strike.

For people who want to study how other mixed martial artists do it, you can also buy videos and then watch this at your own convenience. There are many around and if you want to buy it, try downloading this from the web. The best part is that it is free.

The price range for each of the mixed martial arts training products varies and they could reach more than $100 a piece. While some gyms already have some of these items, you have to buy those which you will use personally. After all, will you let someone borrow your shorts, helmet or mouth guard?

You can buy mixed martial arts training equipment in your favorite sporting goods store or online. These come in different sizes and colors so you won’t have a problem finding one that suits your taste.

I am going to introduce a workout that will simulate a mixed martial arts fight. In order to do this exercise correctly you will require a basic understanding of the terms that will be used and called out during each round of exercise.

This workout will consist of:
-Burpees
-Push Ups
-Crunches
-Sprawls
-Punch Combos (More on this below)
-Kicks (High Kicks, and Leg Kicks)

For the purpose of this workout we will use the following numbers to correspond with our punches:

1 – Jab (weak hand)

2 – Straight Punch (strong hand)

3 – Hook (weak hand)

4 – Hook (strong hand)

5 – Upper Cut (weak hand)

(Your weak hand is whatever hand is out front while you are in your fighting stance.)

Every time a number is called you must throw punches counting in order up to the called number. If your training partner yells “THREE!!” you will Jab (1) – Straight (2) – Hook (3)…. “FIVE!!” you Jab (1) – Straight (2) – Hook (3) – Hook (4) – Upper Cut (5)…. and so on.

The only required equipment for this workout is a training partner and some form of time keeper (simple watch works great). However I recommend that you also have a surface to strike against such as a heavy bag, standing heavy bag (Wavemaster), or your partner holding either thai pads or a punch shield.

We will be aiming to complete five, five minute rounds of exercise for this workout, with one minute of rest in between each round. This workout is designed to push muscular endurance and cardio to the limit. Don’t worry if you are unable to complete the full five rounds without short interruptions, take breaks if needed but try and stay working to get the greatest benefit.

In between rounds have a towel and some water or sports drink ready, you will be sweating heavily and will want to dry off and rehydrate on your rest periods.

During the five minutes of each round have your partner call out different numbers between one and five, with you throwing the corresponding combo. As well as punches have your partner throw in kicks, and timed bouts of burpees, push ups and crunches.

Quick example:

“TWO!!” – Left Jab – Right Straight. “THREE!!” – Left Jab – Right Straight – Left Hook. “SPRAWL!!” – You shoot your feet back and legs apart falling with your hands meeting the floor. “TWO LEG KICKS!!”. “FOUR!!” – Left Jab – Right Straight – Left Hook – Right Hook. “BURPEES!!” – You start doing burpees until your partner says to get up. “UP… AND ONE!!” – Left Jab…… etc etc etc

The key to achieving the greatest success doing this workout, is to stay busy. Have your partner call out decent amounts of combos, mixing things up randomly between all the elements. Don’t be upset and discouraged if you find yourself getting worn out very quick, this workout is designed to do just that.

An Insight into the Mixed Martial Arts Training Gear

The craze of MMA is spreading in all corners of the globe like wild fire. While watching an MMA fight, a lot of us might be tempted to learn this martial art form but a very small fraction of us will be able to withstand the extreme nature of this style. Even people who train at MMA as a hobby are bestowed with immense amount of physical strength and power in the entire process.

It is due to the tough bodies and never-say-die spirit of these MMA fighters that they are referred to as “fighting machines.” This form of fighting is so demanding that there is no doubting the immense physical strength of these fighters.

An increasing number of people are resorting to MMA training classes as a means to lose weight. The physical exercises that are taught in these training classes are a very effective way of losing those extra pounds and attaining a perfect physique. This form of martial art is very fruitful not only to the professional fighters, but everyone who indulges in this kind of training.

What does MMA training consist of?

MMA training is a mixture of cardiovascular workouts, strength training, endurance training, and the development of fighting techniques. The techniques incorporated here are so physically taxing that it leaves the trainees sweating and panting in a matter of minutes.

Training with the right kind of accessories and gear is very crucial as there is always a chance of serious injury while training for MMA techniques. Safety should be the first and foremost priority for the trainees.

The most basic part of the MMA training gear is the training clothes. It is uncomfortable to train in clothes that are ill-fitted. T-shirts that are used while training should be properly fitted specialized T-shirts and not some loose fitted ones. The shorts that the trainees wear should also fit well so that they can ensure maximum comfort as well as flexibility while kicking and punching.

The training schedule requires people to constantly hit pads or spar with fellow trainees. In such situations, it is essential to possess gloves which extend support to the wrist as well as shield the knuckles from any kind of injury while punching. There is also need for foot pads which are used for covering the top of the feet. These are worn just like slippers and are very effective in providing protection to the feet while kicking. The other essentials for safety are knee pads and elbow pads.

All of the above are the basic requisites of an MMA training program. Other advanced safety gear is easily available at all the MMA gyms which are well stocked with all the important equipments that are necessary for MMA training. Some of these equipments are heavy bags, speed bags, and a ring. There is also an availability of weight like the barbells and dumbbells which are used for core training.

These MMA Gyms are popular because they provide for MMA training classes which teach the students about various workout programs as well as fighting techniques.

In order to begin the MMA training, there is no need for the student to have advanced gear. Only the basic essentials like the clothing, gloves and footpads have to be brought in and the rest of the equipment is provided by the gyms.

Hence, people intending to join MMA training classes should know that they should possess the necessary gear not only to help them train better but also to keep their body organs safe and free from injuries.

How to Select a Karate School

I know what you’re probably thinking… “what am I suppose to ask or look for when picking a Karate school for my child?” Not to worry! This is a very common question parents ask themselves when they are looking for a Karate school near by. And, I want to make sure you ask the right questions, but more importantly, find a studio that offers exactly what you want and makes you feel comfortable. As the old saying goes: “Karate is the best thing you can do for your child”. So make sure you find a school that fits!

Before you start your research, you may want to evaluate what you or your child are looking for. Increase self-confidence. Learn self-defense. Develop self-discipline. Improve physical fitness. Demonstrate respect. Learn to persevere. These are just some of the characteristics one will learn when training in the martial arts.

Once you’ve determined this, evaluate whether there will be time to attend Karate classes. Most schools require students to attend about 2-3 times per week, in order to assure students learn the curriculum to test to the next belt rank. Typically classes will be in the late afternoon and early evenings, as it accommodates both parents and children’s schedule.

Finally you want to make sure you have budgeted enough money to pay for monthly tuition. Keep in mind – what you pay is what you get. Now, I’m not saying you need to pay $250/month, but the national average for Karate lessons is about $135/month. Depending where you live, you should expect to spend about this much. Some schools may be more because the cost of living is higher. Others may be less to accommodate lower to middle income families.

Now on to our top 5 list of things to look for when selecting a martial arts school!

1. Location, location, location – Studies show that most consumers will drive about a 3-5 miles radius to reach their destination when shopping for products and/or services. Plus, with gas prices on the rise, you want to find something that is reasonably close to home. Pick up the Yellow Pages, or browse the Internet. This way you can find out exactly where schools are located and how long it will take to get there. You don’t want to be late to your first appointment!

2. Professional service – Now I don’t mean the Nordstrom type of service; rather the type of service that gets you to continue to come back because the instructor(s) care. There are great martial arts studios out there, but if the head instructor does not show they genuinely care about you and/or your child’s progress, I doubt they will teach some of the best Karate classes. You can get a feel for this when you call or show up to the studio. Which leads me to #3…

3. Enthusiasm – That’s right. Energy! Motivation! Great attitude! This is different from the Starbucks associate that has had 3 espressos and 4 lattes before serving you. You should feel excited to come to class. And, the instructor should be happy you came in too – because you have choices. In addition, the classes should be upbeat. Learning discipline should be “cool” and the new “in”. From fun warm-ups to engaging teaching methods, martial arts lessons need to be rewarding. The best way to get a feel for the instructor is to just drop by and watch them teach a class. If you see kids and parents smiling, you know they are a great teacher.

4. Is The School Clean? – Did their mom teach them how to clean correctly? I’m serious! I’ve seen some Karate schools that smelled, the bathrooms were nasty, and kids were wearing soiled uniforms. The cleanliness of the business is an extension of their professionalism and quality of lessons they deliver. The instructor should lead by example and promote acceptable hygiene by wearing clean uniforms and requiring the same. Remember, you are paying for these classes, you should feel comfortable walking in – not icky. This should be easy to find out.

5. Free Karate Lessons – We all know there is no such thing as a free lunch, but most martial arts studios offer (or should) some sort of free trial classes with no obligation. This gives you the opportunity to see if you and/or your child will fit their program, ask questions about the lessons taught, and more important follow the above steps. You should be able to “try it before you buy it”. If the head instructor believes in his Karate program, they should be willing to provide trial lessons in order for the end consumer to make a sound decision. If they don’t offer it, then ask. If they hesitate, call another school.

You should approach your research as though you are buying a car. Shop around! Yes, it may be daunting, but it’s better than throwing money around.

One last thing I would like to point out to all consumers searching for a Karate school. You need to make sure you and/or your child are committed for a certain period of time. There are many schools that require 6-12 months of a commitment, and this is common, so don’t freak out. This is a good thing though. It shows that the instructor is committed to help you meet your goals and staying in business, and that you are determined to show up to class to learn Karate. Plus, if you follow the 5 tips above, you’ll make a great decision.

So what are you waiting for!

Pink Boxing Gloves – Discussed

Lots of women currently are into boxing and kickboxing and are searching for the ideal boxing glove for her particular physical activity. Pink boxing gloves are incredibly well-liked and are also made by Everlast, which is a very well-known name in boxing.

These kinds of gloves come in several sizes, such as 8 oz., 12 oz. and 14 oz. Essentially, the higher the oz., the greater the support. When you use these kinds of gloves for sport and fitness, all of these sizes will work, it’s only if you enter competitive boxing that you will need to worry about limitations on size and color of the glove.

A lot of women might look for pink boxing gloves not just to present their femininity in the aggressive sport of boxing, but also to demonstrate their support for a cure for breast cancer.

The purchase of every set of pink boxing gloves benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Through each of their PINK products, they support the search for a cure for breast cancer and contribute a part of each and every purchase of a PINK item.

These pink boxing gloves are my personal favorite and I’ve used mine for three years. I think they possess superb cushioning to the hands, unlike some other gloves which feel “loose” and not really as supporting. The components used in each of these gloves, referred to as EverFRESH, guard against smells and bacterias. Furthermore, with the patented THUMBLOK feature, it assists to hold your fist and thumb in the appropriate position to steer clear of injuries.

Right now there are numerous PINK items offered from Everlast which benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and the these particular pink hand wraps happen to be yet another one of those.

This kind of type of hand wrap, compared to the kind which you physically wrap the extended strips around your hand, are not only more comfortable, but quick to put on. The pink hand wraps suggested here are similar to a fingerless glove, and you merely wrap the wrist straps around to your own precise fit. These wraps come in small, medium, large and extra large. As a woman with relatively large hands, I prefer the large size.

These pink hand wraps equally fit nicely into the pink boxing gloves. There is no have to have to continually take off these wraps to use your regular boxing gloves whenever changing from heavy bag work to speed bag work. They are additionally really comfortable when you are including additional components to your workout such as jump rope and push-ups for instance.

Thus whether or not you’re seeking for your pink boxing gloves and pink hand wraps merely to look like a hot chic in the boxing ring or you just just like to get everything pink to support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, you will certainly be quite pleased with what you find in this boxing equipment.
